So the promotional machine has begun to churn for the Iron Man feature which will debut a year from today. I've never read the comic and before recently I haven't known much about the character. I boned up a bit on the storyline and characters by reading the wikipedia article on
Iron Man. It all sounds great to me and the character armor looks awesome. The gist of the story is that he is a billionaire who's company manufactures weapons. He gets captured in Afghanistan, it was Vietnam in the original stories, and he creates the Mark I armor suit which is depicted in the first two pictures above. He uses the armor to escape his captivity and goes on to become Iron Man. He has no superpowers much like Batman. The Third picture is of his Mark III which was revealed today by
Entertainment Weekly. I think with
Jon Favreau directing it has a good shot of rising above the the stale movies that Marvel has been producing lately. He did a interesting interview on the NPR show The Business that's worth checking out if you haven't already. You can find that podcast here:
