Life In A Day

I think I may try to participate in this if I'm able! Here is the description from the filmmakers...
Life In A Day is a historic global experiment to create the world's largest user-generated feature film: a documentary, shot in a single day, by you. On July 24, you have 24 hours to capture a glimpse of your life on camera. The most compelling and distinctive footage will be edited into an experimental documentary film, executive produced by Ridley Scott and directed by Kevin Macdonald.

Click play and watch fullscreen. So beautiful.

I think I'll take Syd to the Aquarium of the Pacific soon.

I'm reblogging this from We Love You So.

New print from Shepard Fairey

Titled The Duality of Humanity 3. It's a collaboration with legendary photographer Al Rockoff. Very thought provoking. I like it a lot. It's limited to 450 prints and goes on sale tomorrow. I think I may stop by the online store and see if I can pick one up.

Development artwork for the animated BBC Olympics promo

I came across the Blog of Kevin Dart who apparently did concept art and backgrounds for the Monkey animated piece from the BBC. I've included one of the images above, but I highly encourage you to take a look at his site for more beautiful work.

Presto & WALL·E

I was planning on writing this big long post about these two films but I should get to my homework so I'll keep it simple... I loved them. WALL-E was fantastic. I had a few minor issues with some of the creative decisions but overall I was won over by the strength of the story and characters. Presto, the short film running in front of WALL-E, was perfect. No joke. Best thing I've seen all year... Live Action or animated... short or feature. It was perfect!

MUTO: a wall-painted animation

Someone posted this in the AM forum. I had seen a part of this a few months back, but this takes it to a whole new level. It's beautiful, amazing, and kind of creepy at the same time.

And on a side note, I'm very impressed with this Vimeo video service. The picture quality is way better than YouTube and I really like that the player disappears once the video starts so all you see is the video itself. I may switch over to posting my work here through them.

Batman The Animated Series - Title Cards

Yesterday, after seeing the cover art for the upcoming Batman: Gotham Knight, which is an animated direct-to-video anthology film of six animated short films set in-between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, I was inspired to revisit my DVD set of the original Batman: The Animated Series. I absolutely loved this show growing up. Upon this most recent re-visitation of the much loved show I was really struck by the artistry and thought that was put into the title cards. These title cards are very much a throw back to the animated films of the time period the show takes place in. I've posted a few above but you can see a complete gallery of all of them here. I have no idea what I am going to do for my AM short film in a few terms but if I can find a way to incorporate a title card scheme such as the ones used in this series it's definitely something I would like to do.

NIN: Ghosts I-IV

This sort of creativity really inspires me. I really respect Trent Reznor for challenging preconceived notions of music production and distribution...

This music arrived unexpectedly as the result of an experiment. The rules were as follows: 10 weeks, no clear agenda, no overthinking, everything driven by impulse. Whatever happens during that time gets released as... something.

The team: Atticus Ross, Alan Moulder and myself with some help from Alessandro Cortini, Adrian Belew and Brian Viglione. Rob Sheridan collaborated with Artist in Residence (A+R) to create the accompanying visual and physical aesthetic.

We began improvising and let the music decide the direction. Eyes were closed, hands played instruments and it began. Within a matter of days it became clear we were on to something, and a lot of material began appearing. What we thought could be a five song EP became much more. I invited some friends over to join in and we all enjoyed the process of collaborating on this.

The end result is a wildly varied body of music that we're able to present to the world in ways the confines of a major record label would never have allowed - from a 100% DRM-free, high-quality download, to the most luxurious physical package we've ever created.

More volumes of Ghosts are likely to appear in the future.

The Chicago Spire

Can I live here? Please!!

Maybe we'll attend the 2016 Summer Olympics there... and then maybe we'll fall in love with the city... and then maybe we'll decide to retire here rather than the Pacific Northwest...

I can daydream right?

Awesome new Indy 4 poster!

Click the poster to see a nice high-rez version.

Just last week my friend Frankie and I were bemoaning the fact that studios don't create beautifully illustrated posters like they used to. Then along comes Spielberg to show and remind us of those things we love about cinema. This new Indy 4 poster is illustrated by the modern movie poster master Drew Struzan. I want one for the wall in my office! :)

Best mashup ever!!

I've been meaning to post this for a while now. I love this video! It's the very definition of a mashup and it's extremely entertaining as well...
Definition:
Noun
mashup
A derivative work consisting of two pieces of (generally digital) media conjoined together in some interesting way, such as a video clip with a different soundtrack applied for humorous effect, or a digital map overlaid with user-supplied data.

Ingredients: One old dance routine from a 60's TV show. Replace music with modern hip hop song. Result = Genius!

Check out the original video HERE.

More Animation Inspired Gentle Giant Maquettes

I love that Gentle Giant is creating these type of maquettes. They comebine two of my favorite things... Animation & Visual Effects. I hope they continue this trend and who knows... maybe they'll do a Harry Potter line down the road. That would be great.

**Update 5/3/07**

I just came across this picture. Looks s awesome. Here's the description from the website:
As a representative of his people to the Fellowship of the Ring, Gimli is a mighty warrior, quick to draw his broad axes in battle. Once committed, his resolve to the success of the quest is unshakable.

Figure base is designed to inter-link and be displayed with the upcoming Legolas Animaquette.

Did you catch that last part?! Sounds like they are continuing with the series much like they are doing with Star Wars. I can't wait to see the Legolas one and maybe a Gollum one someday...

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Cover Art!

Scholastic released the cover art for the seventh and final Harry Potter book yesterday. I know it may seem mundane for those not interested in the franchise but those who enjoy the world that J.K. Rowling has created this is very exciting.

Also of note for Potter Fans and commuters like myself, Yahoo posted an article about the Audiobook for the final book as well. You can find that story HERE.

I love this kind of creativity...

The type of imagination it takes to come up with ideas like this and execute them inspire me.

It reminds me of Michel Gondry.
