It's been about 3 weeks since I've last posted about my AM short. In those three weeks I started the new term and, I feel, made some good progress on my short. Don't get me wrong here... I know it is far from perfect and I have a LOT of work to do on it. I set the goal of trying to clarify ideas and get the short to the point where the "story" holds up without external explanation.
My new and final Mentor is none other than Mike Stern. Mike was one of the first students in AM and created one of the best shorts to come out of the program entitled Distraxion. Coincidentally Mike is also an animator at DreamWorks and working on the same film that I am! I see him often in Animation Dailies. He is a very talented animator and fantastic mentor. He has pushed more in these past few week than I could have ever hoped for.
There are a few things I wanted to mention here as well...
This will be the last time I will be posting the short as a whole. I am going to start going in and working on specific shots and refining the animation now. I will be posting some of the shots as they progress to get feedback, but I will now hold of on showing the short as a whole until I have it lit and rendered someday.
As you can tell if you have watched the short above I have picked a title and some music. It was just "Untitled" for the longest time and this week I decided on "THREE DEE." It's basic and says what the short is about. I like the look of the title spelled out versus "3D" so I went with it. The music is from a CD called Raymond Scott: The Chesterfield Arrangements: 1937-38. A friend, and fellow animation geek, lent it to me and I absolutely love it! (Thanks Jess!) I like the old school animation vibe to it and felt like it fit the fun and playful nature of the short well.
