Kids love Alvin!

Alvin and the Chipmunks won Favorite Live-Action Movie at the 2008 Kids' Choice Awards this past weekend beating out Pirates 3 and Transformers. Don't get me wrong, I don't see this as conquering the Academy or anything like that, but it feels gratifying for a couple of reasons... Some people may have interpreted my feelings about the film as snide or condescending but the truth of the matter is I feel proud to have worked on this project and it feels very satisfying that kids love it so much. While it would have been nice for it to have been less of a product and more of an artistic endeavor it is a film intended to entertain kids and that it does. It's especially nice to have something that I have worked on for so many long hours that I can share with Syd. She loves it regardless of the fact that I worked on it. In fact, I don't even think she understands the concept quite yet but she will someday and that's exciting to me. I won't share Mummy 3 with her for probably the next decade at least, but this is something she can watch now and look back on remembering how much she liked it as a child and know that her Dad helped bring it to life. More than film credits or anything else that's what feels best.

I think it is a really cute family film, but I agree that it could have been better artistically. When you control your own film then you can make that a priority. ;)
