300 is a graphic novel created by the prolific comic book artist Frank Miller. Although I am unfamiliar with the source material I came across this Production Blog from the Director behind the film version of said graphic novel. Its production seems very intriguing and I always find it interesting when filmmakers open up to the public regarding the filmmaking process. From the looks of it the production seems very similar to the way Sin City and the Star Wars prequels were created, with lots of green (or blue) screen and digital manipulation to achieve the final look. This is the type of stuff that got me interested in the business and it brings me much joy to continue learning about the ever evolving art of Cinema. The synopsis on the site says this about the film: "Based on the epic graphic novel by Frank Miller, 300 is a ferocious retelling of the ancient Battle of Thermopylae in which King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) and 300 Spartans fought to the death against Xerxes and his massive Persian army. Facing insurmountable odds, their valor and sacrifice inspire all of Greece to unite against their Persian enemy, drawing a line in the sand for democracy. The film brings Miller's (Sin City) acclaimed graphic novel to life by combining live action with virtual backgrounds that capture his distinct vision of this ancient historic tale."
