Imagination
The other day when Annie was at a bible study I was at home with Syd and she told me she wanted to play with Legos. So we got out the big tub and dumped it in the middle of the living room floor. For about 10 minutes we just built away at nothing in particular. I was just enjoying the time together. Syd then picked out this booklet that was in with the Legos and opened it up. She flipped through it and then turned to me and pointed to a Lego animal and ask if we could build it. I said, "Why don't we build something from our imagination?" She looked at me puzzled and asked what imagination was. I had never thought about trying to describe this thing we take so much for granted as adults, but I found myself in the position of having to define it in terms that a 3 year old could understand. I gave it my best shot and told her that our imagination is when we think of something, anything really, and picture it in our heads. I suggested that she think of something in her head and try to build it. We went on for another five minutes or so just building away again. Syd then turned to me and handed me the thing you see pictured above. I inspected it then asked her what it was. She looked up at me with a grin and said, "It's an imagination, Daddy!"
