Jon Stewart to host the Oscars

The academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences announced today that they have chosen Jon Stewart to host the Academy Awards this year. I think he is a good pick. He is intelligent, entertaining, and his satire can often be insightful. He is most well known as the host of The Daily Show on Comedy Central. I didn't find Chris Rock, who hosted last year, particularly good or bad so hopefully Stewart can bring something different to the table. As most who know me I'm not a particularly big sports fan, with the odd exception of the Olympics, so the Oscars are like the Super Bowl for me. What can I say? I love movies I can't help it. I know many would say that the Oscars are all political. That may be true to a certain extent, but I still hold out hope that it is also a genuine way to honor the best that Cinema has to offer. The politics are going to be in anything really. After all its like Aristotle said, "Man is by nature a political animal."

I am looking forward to Stewart hosting. I like his kind of humor and jokes. I was not impressed at all by Chris Rock last year and while I did not hate him or anything I was disinterested in the show and I think it was largely due to the host. I look forward to this year for more reasons then the new host. There really doesn't seem to be a stand out movie in my mind (or performances for that matter) so I am intersted to see what the nominees are and the winners. I guess that Brokeback Mountain has all the buzz right now but I have not seen it so I can't say how I think it will or should do. Needless to say it will be a good show this year. We should have an Oscar party and celebrate.

I know what you mean about the "competition" this year. And unfortunately I haven't seen many of the films with all the buzz...
Should make for an interesting awards ceremony. I concur and we shall have an Oscar party this year!
